Why don’t toilet doors touch the floor?

Think the gap at the bottom of the door is annoying? Actually, it plays a  discreet but useful preventive role .

Solid doors, all the way to the floor, can create an enclosed space conducive to excesses:  damage, consumption of illicit products, inappropriate behavior . The openness reduces this impression of total isolation. It makes the place more « public » and therefore less attractive to people looking to linger or hide there.

Better ventilation… and therefore more hygiene

We don’t always think about it, but in an enclosed space like a restroom, ventilation is essential. Those small gaps at the bottom of the doors allow air to circulate, which limits unpleasant odors and helps keep the space  healthier and more breathable .

It’s a bit like leaving a window ajar: it encourages air renewal, which is essential in busy places.

Reduced cost, easier maintenance

Budget-wise, these half doors have a significant advantage: they require fewer materials, so  they are more economical to produce and install .

But that’s not all. For maintenance workers, these openings make it easier to clean floors. No need to open every door or navigate around obstacles: one wipe of the mop and it’s clean. Faster, more efficient, more convenient.
